About Us
About ROSCH KENNEL
Where the grand nature of Kirishima meets cutting-edge science. That is ROSCH KENNEL.
Our Story
ROSCH KENNEL began with a simple question: "What does a true bond between humans and dogs look like?" Captivated by the intelligence, sensitivity, and deep trust that Border Collies share with their people, we set out to create a breeding program that brings out the full potential of this remarkable breed.
We chose the nature-rich environment of Kirishima City, Kagoshima Prefecture, with views of Mt. Takachiho, because we believe that interaction with nature is essential for the healthy development of a dog's body and mind. In the crisp air at 800m elevation, surrounded by the changing seasons, our dogs sharpen their instincts and grow strong.
At the same time, we never compromise on our scientific approach. Genetic testing, genomic analysis, inbreeding coefficient management, and the implementation of ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) programs -- every aspect of our breeding is grounded in evidence-based practices. Nature and science, together, form the foundation of ROSCH KENNEL.
Location
Nestled in Kirishima National Park
ROSCH KENNEL is situated at approximately 800m elevation within Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park, one of Japan's first designated national parks. The sweeping views of Mt. Takachiho and the ever-changing landscape of the Kirishima mountain range captivate every visitor.
In spring, Miyama Kirishima azaleas paint the hillsides. Summer brings cool mountain breezes. Autumn blazes with vibrant foliage, and winter occasionally reveals serene snow-covered landscapes. Surrounded by wild deer, birds, and diverse flora, this environment naturally stimulates our dogs' senses, fostering sociability and adaptability.
Summer temperatures average 5-6 degrees cooler than the lowlands, creating ideal climate conditions for Border Collies. This blessed environment is ROSCH KENNEL's greatest asset.
Philosophy
Harmony of Science and Nature
At the core of ROSCH KENNEL's breeding philosophy is the belief that "the selection of parent dogs determines the future of every puppy." No matter how excellent the environment or training, truly healthy dogs cannot be raised without a solid genetic foundation.
Research suggests that approximately 35% of a dog's personality and behavioral performance is determined by genetic factors. To maximize this 35%, we develop scientific breeding plans using genomic analysis data. Inbreeding coefficient management, carrier status awareness, and temperament-based pairing considerations form the foundation of every breeding decision at our kennel.
Additionally, we implement the ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) program from day 3 to day 16 after birth. Through gentle stimulation, we promote the development of puppies' nervous systems, enhancing stress tolerance, immune function, and learning ability.

Health
Health Assurance Through Genetic Testing
At ROSCH KENNEL, all parent dogs undergo comprehensive genetic testing covering 15+ conditions. This includes CEA (Collie Eye Anomaly), TNS (Trapped Neutrophil Syndrome), CL (Ceroid Lipofuscinosis), MDR1 (Multi-Drug Resistance), and other major hereditary conditions relevant to Border Collies.
All test results are published transparently. In our breeding plans, we avoid carrier-to-carrier pairings, reducing the risk of puppies developing hereditary conditions to virtually zero. Furthermore, phenotypic evaluations for Hip Dysplasia (HD) and Elbow Dysplasia (ED) are performed on all dogs.
Sustainability
Living in Harmony with Nature
Located within Kirishima National Park, we believe it is our responsibility to preserve this beautiful natural environment for future generations. We implement the following sustainability initiatives in our kennel operations.
100% Solar Powered
A 10kW solar panel system provides all the electricity needed for kennel operations
Electric Vehicle & V2H
Our EV and V2H (Vehicle to Home) system also serves as backup power during emergencies
Biodegradable Products
We choose biodegradable products wherever possible for kennel consumables
Water Conservation
Efficient water use through rainwater harvesting and water-saving equipment
Nutrition
Premium Nutrition Management
Our dogs' health begins with their daily nutrition. At ROSCH KENNEL, we use human-grade ingredients, focusing on fresh, locally sourced produce from Kagoshima Prefecture.
Nutritional balance is individually adjusted based on each dog's life stage, activity level, and health condition. By combining premium dog food with handmade toppings, we ensure optimal nutritional intake. We pay special attention to pregnant mothers and growing puppies, developing nutrition plans under expert guidance.
